The Ministry of Health and the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg have launched Pollen.lu, a new app that provides real-time updates on pollen levels, helping allergy sufferers better manage their symptoms.
More than one in five people in Luxembourg suffer from mild or severe pollen allergies. Whether it be a runny nose or itching eyes, symptoms increase in intensity with the concentration of pollen in the air.
To allow those affected by the condition to better prepare ahead, the Ministry of Health and the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) on Tuesday jointly launched the pollen.lu application, allowing users to receive updates about the latest pollen counts in the Grand Duchy.
The detector feeding the app data has been installed on the CHL roof in Luxembourg City. The data can be seen in the app in real time, with updates made three times per day, explains Dr Farah Hannachi, head of the 'National Service Immuno-allergology Service'.
Eleven different pollen types are detected and measured by the installation. Depending on the concentration level, allergic people can take precautions and the app provides useful tips. Pollen.lu can also help undiagnosed people suffering from symptoms determine which pollen types cause issues for them.
People can download the Pollen.lu app free of charge on the App Store and on Google Play. The app is available in German and French.
