On Thursday, the Democratic Party presented its six candidates for the European elections this June.
Three women and three men will stand for election on 9 June, with an average combined age of 46. Current MEP Charles Goerens leads the list alongside educator Amela Skenderović, followed by Nancy Braun, Jana Degrott, Christos Floros and Gusty Graas.
The DP secured a strong result at the last European elections, obtaining two mandates for Goerens and Monica Semedo, before the latter exited the party. Currently the DP has just one European representative in Goerens.
Candidate overview
72-year-old Goerens served in the European parliament from 1994 to 1999, before his re-election in 2009. Amela Skenderović, a 28-year-old English teacher, stood for election in 2023's local and parliamentary elections.
Nancy Braun, 51, is a culture manager who worked on Projet Esch 2022, among others. 28-year-old Jana Degrott, a law graduate and long-term political activist, was elected to Steinsel's municipal council in 2018.
Joining the elections for the first time is 30-year-old marketing manager Christos Floros, while the list is rounded out by MP and Bettembourg alderman Gusty Graas, 66, who came fifth on the DP's list at the last elections.
