The National Employment Agency (ADEM) has identified approximately 7,000 job openings still available in Luxembourg, catering to various sectors.

As of the end of January, ADEM reported nearly 7,000 vacancies, primarily in sectors not readily filled by the resident population or cross-border workers. The latest data reveals that over 90% of these openings are for contract-based positions, contrasting with just 5% allocated for temporary employment.

According to ADEM's recent findings, here are the top ten sectors seeking workers in Luxembourg:

  1. Information and telecommunications systems
  2. Accounting and management
  3. Secretarial and assistant services
  4. Food production
  5. Post-construction
  6. Banking
  7. Warehousing, load handling, and removals

Decline in available jobs amid economic recovery

As Luxembourg emerges from a two-year crisis period, characterised by a surge in unfilled positions, the landscape of employment is undergoing changes. While workers briefly enjoyed a position of strength, recent developments including a rise in unemployment and the escalating cost of living have changed the equation. The Chamber of Employees highlights the dilemma faced by workers, who find themselves grappling with increasing expenses against a backdrop of job conditions that may compromise their well-being.

Despite these challenges, the labour market continues to set new records, with over 271,000 resident employees and more than 229,000 cross-border workers recorded in January 2024.

In response to these dynamics, Luxembourg is exploring solutions to enhance the quality of life for its workforce. In addition, the government's recent tax cuts for residents and cross-border workers marked an initial step towards addressing income concerns.
