The European Union represents peace, stability, prosperity and freedom, and must be strengthened, Luc Frieden said on Thursday.
Luxembourg's new Prime Minister visited Brussels on Thursday to meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
Frieden said the new government, and Luxembourg's members of parliament, clearly showed solidarity with the EU and would pursue policy accordingly.
In particular, Frieden's meeting with Metsola focused on discussions surrounding the enlargement of the Union, the European elections, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, underlining the importance of European support for Kyiv. Ukraine's security is that of Europe, Frieden emphasised.
The new PM said Europe is a key element for Luxembourg's new government. As a result, his initial official visits in his new role will be to various European institutions. The Grand Duchy plans to continue a close collaboration with the European Parliament, even on tax issues. Frieden also took the opportunity to advertise the Luxembourg market, saying it will remain attractive for European institutions.
