The authorities had a busy Saturday night as many intoxicated drivers were on the roads.
A first incident occurred at around 7 pm on Saturday evening, when the police received a report of a car accident in Differdange. According to the witness, a car had crashed into a parked car, whereupon the driver then ran into a building. The officers found the car, which had no number plate, and was left turned in the wrong direction on a one-way street. When the driver was identified, he had no papers on him and did not want to take an alcohol test. His vehicle was confiscated by order of the prosecutor.
At around 11.30 pm, a car was reported to the police in Bissen for driving zigzags with no lights on. The police found the car and the driver was indeed under the influence of alcohol. His driving licence was confiscated.
In Dudelange, at around 1 am, another driver was reported for driving down a one-way street in the wrong direction before stopping in the middle of the road. When officers arrived on the scene, the driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel. As the man refused to take an alcohol test on the spot or at the police station, he was issued with a provisional driving ban.
On Montée de Clausen in Luxembourg City, a driver raised suspicion at around 3.30 am for driving through a red light. The driver tested positive for alcohol and did not have valid insurance documents, which resulted in his driving license being confiscated.
In addition, a driver had to give up his driving licence because he was zigzagging in Mersch at around 5.30 am and was stopped by the police.
Around the same time, the police were overtaken by a car travelling at high speed on the A13 near Esch. Here too, the vehicle was stopped and checked, the man had had too much to drink and his driving license was confiscated.
A final incident was reported shortly before 7 am on Sunday morning whenanother vehicle was zigzagging on the A1 towards the Gluck roundabout and then also drove several laps in it. The car was found shortly afterwards by the police in Hesperange, and the driving license was revoked.
