On Sunday afternoon, Meteolux issued a yellow warning for Monday, spanning from 6 am to 4 pm, in anticipation of expected snowfall.
According to recent updates from the Kachelmann weather service, the entire country is forecasted to experience snowfall throughout the morning. Exercise caution on the roads, as slippery conditions are anticipated.
The snowfall line (the geographical height above which fallen snow doesn't melt) ranges between 300 and 400 meters, with the possibility of 1 to 5 centimeters of snow accumulation. In the afternoon, a transition to rain is anticipated. Temperatures are forecasted to range from 1 to 4°C.
This Sunday afternoon, Meteolux issued a yellow alert for Monday, effective from 6 am to 4 pm. Anticipated snowfall in the Eislek region is expected to range from 1 to 2 centimeters for most areas, while some locations may experience up to 5 centimeters.
During the night leading to Tuesday, there is a potential continuation of snowfall in the northern part of the country. Kachelman has also issued a warning regarding possible icy conditions.
Gentle reminder!
Luxembourg's road traffic regulations mandate the use of winter or all-weather tyres during winter conditions, as clarified by the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 10 September 2012. These conditions are specified as the presence of ice, packed snow, slush, or patches of ice or frost.
While there is no set date for switching from summer to winter tyres, the law requires drivers to use winter tyres when these conditions are present. With Monday's first moderately heavy snowfall to come, consider this a clear sign to change to winter tyres ASAP!
Situation on the weekend
Last Friday evening, light snowfall was already observed in certain areas of the Eislek region. By Saturday morning, a combination of snow and rain had occurred, resulting in a thin layer of white snow in some places.
During the night leading to Sunday, rain showers were widespread across the country, accompanied by sleet and snowfalls in areas situated above 500 meters. Sunday morning temperatures fluctuated between 0 and 3°C, creating potentially slippery conditions.
Throughout the day, temperatures ranged between 2 and 6°C.
