Over the weekend, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps installed shelters in exhibition hall 7 at the LuxExpo in Kirchberg, to provide a temporary, transitional solution to house refugees currently living outside in tent structures. Minister Max Hahn said the hall would provide accommodation for up to 600 people as temperatures drop over the winter months.
There are currently 460 people, including 140 children, housed in the tent structures at the Tony Rollmann initial reception centre. The first refugees will start to move into the LuxExpo next week, as part of the process which is set to last until the end of January.
