The announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday morning, ahead of the start of the 2023/2024 school year on Friday.

Under the proposed changes, there will be two new sections in classical secondary education: “P,” focused on cognitive sciences and humanities, and “R,” centred on politics and sustainable development. Additionally, the general secondary education system will also introduce two new sections — one dedicated to technology, sports, and health, and the other to natural sciences, computer science, and mathematics.

In response to criticism from the SEW teachers’ union that he has fragmented the school system, Minister Meisch defended his policies, stating that he is proud that every child is able to benefit from all available offers, irrespective of their parents’ income.
