Authorities have confirmed the death of a motorist in Esch-sur-Alzette Monday evening following a pursuit that began after the man was spotted rampaging on a private property in Niederkorn.

On Monday evening, authorities were alerted to a trespasser who was rampaging on a private property in the Lauterbann residential area in Niederkorn. A police patrol encountered the man in question on their way to the scene as the latter was driving in the opposite direction.

A pursuit unfolded, but it ended abruptly when the fugitive motorist crashed into a wall near Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Esch-sur-Alzette. The car caught fire immediately as a result.

Officers at the scene tried extinguishing the flames, but by the time emergency services arrived, they were only able to determine the death of the driver.

An autopsy of the body has been ordered.
