According to a recent study, Findel Airport in Luxembourg City is an excellent choice for those looking for a bit of serenity to kick off their holidays.

Navigating a crowded airport can be a nerve-wracking experience with hurried passengers, restless children, and constant boarding announcements. The stress-inducing process from check-in to boarding often dampens the holiday spirit.

To counter this, travellers are advised to opt for destinations with fewer tourist crowds and airports conveniently situated close to city centres.

A study conducted by the Schengen area information portal, using data collected by StressFreeCarRental, identified airports meeting these stress-free criteria. Parking expenses, another potential stressor, were also considered in the analysis.

To escape the stress, it's best to look to northern Europe first of all. Head for Denmark, not Copenhagen, but Billund, already known to Lego fans for its Legoland park. Billund Airport welcomed 3.7 million passengers in 2022.

To give you an idea of scale here, London's Heathrow Airport recorded a staggering 61 million passengers in the same period!

Another advantage of Billund Airport, a three-hour drive from Copenhagen, is also its location just 5.9 km from the city centre. The only criticism that could be made relates to Billund's limited restaurant options, with five eateries compared to Findel Airport's nine, placing the latter second in the rankings.

Vilnius Airport in Lithuania secured the bronze medal, boasting ten restaurants and a proximity of just 6.4 km to the city centre.

For those who have already explored the northern regions, some Mediterranean destinations also offer a more relaxed experience.

The Balearic Islands in Spain, specifically Menorca, hold the fourth spot in the ranking, providing a serene atmosphere for travellers. Corfu in Greece, accommodating 3.7 million passengers in 2022, claims the seventh position. The list concludes with Italian options, Turin Airport (ninth) and Cagliari in Sardinia (tenth).
