Open governmentLuxembourg's administrative transparency law to be improved

RTL Today
In an effort to strengthen administrative transparency and facilitate access to information, the Ministry of State announced on Tuesday its intention to draft a bill aimed at amending the current law on transparent and open administration.

The proposed bill will include provisions to grant professional journalists the right of access to information.

The right of access to documents will also be strengthened, particularly for requests pertaining to information in general, rather than specific documents, or portions of documents that are not eligible for disclosure. The existing 2018 law contains exceptions where the right to information is limited.

The new law is also expected to be more effective, as public bodies will be legally obligated to provide requested documents to the Commission for Access to Documents.

In addition, the Ministry of State aims to formulate proposals for the next government, laying the groundwork for potential reform of the Commission.

In a press release, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel emphasised his commitment to a robust and independent press, highlighting the positive response from the Press Council regarding these proposed measures.
