Abseiling down a bridge, carrying a 250-kilogram defused bomb for 80 meters or changing the tires of a car that weigh 70 kilos each. Those were some of the tasks that participants had to absolve.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Guillaume Hansen the Military Challenge is composed of about 20 unusual obstacles that can not necessarily be trained at military barracks.
Because the tasks are not a part of the common military programme, once the different exercises have been determined, the participants need to be adequately prepared to be able to absolve these obstacles.
Other than members of the Luxembourgish Military, certain members of the CGDIS, the police and the border control take part in the challenge. But also, members from the German, Belgian and French military.
Among the 164 participants, 10 were women. For Lieutenant Colonel Hansen this signifies the very slow rise of women in the Luxembourgish military. However, it is not the first time that women take part in the challenge, they have done that from the very beginning. There are also women-only teams participating.
This year the challenge was won by team Tango 1, composed of a few Luxembourgish units. On average a team needs about three hours to complete the circuit.
