In a unanimous vote, Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies has approved a bill that will provide financial assistance to homeowners seeking to insulate their properties against noise pollution from Findel Airport.
This legislation, which targets residences constructed before 31 August 1986, is a significant step towards addressing the longstanding issue of airport noise in the region.
The bill outlines the creation of a financial aid scheme specifically designed for homeowners requiring sound insulation to mitigate the impact of noise pollution from the nearby airport. The legislation will extend the eligibility for aid to an additional 2,000 homes, following a reduction in the noise limit by six decibels.
However, the scheme will only apply to buildings with permits granted prior to the end of August 1986. This stipulation is likely to spark discussions about the need for broader measures to address noise pollution in the region.
Under the new legislation, homeowners can apply for support up to €16,000 for houses and €8,000 for apartments, marking an increase in the amount available through the scheme. Households affected by the change will receive notification by post.
