Weather forecaster Meteolux has issued a yellow alert for the increased risk of ozone pollution this weekend, with temperatures set to hit over 30 degrees.
The overcast and dry conditions on Saturday are likely to exacerbate the risk of ozone pollution, which can have severe health consequences - for example, low air quality can trigger inflammatory bronchial reactions, dry coughs, and cause breathing difficulties.
The yellow alert particularly applies to the afternoon and evening when ozone concentrations are at their highest.
Sunday's weather is set to take a turn for the worse, with rain showers predicted around late afternoon, accompanied by high winds of up to 60 km/h. Temperatures will remain warm, with highs of 31 degrees expected.
The blue skies are unlikely to return next week, with cloudy conditions and light rain showers predicted from Monday onwards. Although the thirsty ground will no doubt appreciate the rainfall, it is unlikely to be sufficient to stem concerns of drought.
