Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel reacted to the results of the municipal elections on Monday during a working visit to Dublin.

Bettel was very satisfied with the results of the Democratic Party, which won 26 seats in Sunday's polls.

"If I told you that I am not happy, I would be lying. Today, I am a happy member of a happy Democratic Party," he told RTL on Monday evening.

Bettel and Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes embarked on a visit to Dublin accompanied by approximately 50 Luxembourgish companies.

The delegation will aim to facilitate the exchange of opportunities and explore avenues for collaboration between companies from both nations, with a particular focus on sectors such as logistics, digital technology, and maritime ventures. Prime Minister Bettel stressed the significance of the visit, stating, "We are here to open doors."

Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes expressed her satisfaction after constructive discussions with her Irish counterpart, who is also currently President of the Eurogroup. The main objective of these exchanges was to engage in dialogue and share perspectives on pressing matters of shared interest.

The visit to Dublin served as a collective effort to safeguard the interests of Luxembourg and Ireland. The itinerary also included the ceremonial opening of Luxembourg's first embassy in Ireland.

Acknowledging the nuanced relationship between Luxembourg and Ireland, Prime Minister Bettel acknowledged that both countries possess thriving financial centres, enabling them to simultaneously collaborate as partners and compete within the European landscape.
