The infamous race of little plastic ducks, organised on the banks of the Alzette river in Luxembourg City every spring for the past 22 years, is becoming increasingly popular. And this is much to the delight of the organisers, the volunteers from the Luxembourg Roundtable Association.

The concept of the Duck Race is fairly simple: a giant race of plastic ducks, sponsored by participants with the aim of financing a number of charities in the Grand Duchy.

22e édition de la Duck Race à Luxembourg
Une vague jaune de 16.000 canards a dévalé l’Alzette en plein cœur de la capitale, pour la bonne cause!

At the beginning of June, organisers revealed the results of the 2023 edition. A total of €90,000 was raised, a record sum exceeding last year’s donation by €5,000.

As a result, three checks worth €30,000 each were handed over to three associations at an evening event held in Esch-sur-Alzette at the end of May. These included Nuevo Destino, an association that helps Honduran families in the field of education and development, the Kinderchirurge Foundation , which supports doctors who travel to medically underdeveloped countries, and ‘MANAMPY’, an association that works in Madagascar by supporting the training of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with the aim of improving their quality of life.

These charitable organisations are not the only winners of the 2023 Duck Race. To encourage people to take part in the competition and thereby increase the amount of donations, the Luxembourg Roundtable awarded prizes to the first thirty ducks crossing the finishing line. The fastest duck - or rather the owner of said duck - walked away with a Volkswagen Taigo, the second with an electric bike, and the third with a gift voucher worth €2,500.
