Luxembourg will introduce a significant change to its passport regulations, extending the validity period from five years to ten.
Currently, Luxembourgish passports are valid for a duration of five years, but this is set to change. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively engaged in the development of a new passport version, which is expected to be introduced in two years.
The new extended validity period of ten years will apply to all adult passport holders aged 18 and above.
This revision holds particular significance for the large number of Luxembourg nationals residing abroad, who often find themselves traveling extensively. The extended validity, coupled with the integration of biometric features, will significantly streamline the process of acquiring passports for this particular demographic.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn conveyed these developments in his response to a parliamentary question by MP Nancy Arendt from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV).
