Petition debated in ChamberShould the technical car inspection be valid for two years?

RTL Today
A technical car inspection every two years instead of one: This is being discussed by MPs in the Chamber on Wednesday.

5,300 signatures were collected for petition 2516, which passed the threshold of 4,500 for it to be discussed in the Chamber.

The author calls for the annual inspection to be amended to every two years. This is already the case in Germany and France.

Should the current fee of €64,50 be raised in that case? That is a question MPs will also have to cover in their discussion.

Currently new car owners can wait four years after their purchase before their first check-up.
In 2020, the Ministry of Mobility reported that 17,000 cars and transporters were circulating the country without proper certification from a technical control station. This can result in a €145 fine paired with a loss of two points should police stop them.

The debate can be followed live here as of 10.30am.
