Six months before the legislative elections, the CSV's top candidate makes it clear that his goal is to lead his party back into government.

Speaking to our colleagues from RTL Télé, the lead candidate of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) discussed his ten-year sabbatical from politics, which he considers as an advantage: "I have had the opportunity to gather and live numerous experiences all these years spent outside the political bubble," he assures.

His goal: get the CSV back into government

"It is in the nature of the lead candidate to aspire to become Prime Minister, but our primary goal is to return to government," Frieden explained. Especially in these times of crisis, the government needs "clear direction," the former Minister of Finance stressed. According to Frieden, this is no longer the case with the current government: "We can see that the parties are obstructing each other."

No coalition with the adr or the Left Party

Frieden reiterated that he sees the CSV as "a large people's party of the centre" as well as "a pro-European party." For this reason, he believes that "coalitions with the extremes of the right or the left, in particular the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr) and the Left Party (déi Lénk)" are not an option. Frieden thinks that all parties elected on election night should talk to each other. In the end, "those who share similar policies should come together."

Can Luc Frieden get the CSV out of the crisis?

"It's the party with the most seats in parliament, yet the CSV is in opposition for the 10th year in a row. This will change after the elections in October," Frieden said at the CSV national congress shortly after being unanimously nominated as the top candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
