The team around Cristiano Ronaldo left Luxembourg little chance and will return home with three points after beating the Grand Duchy away from home in the European Championship qualifying game.

Iceland beat Liechtenstein 7:0 and earned three points in the qualification. Slovakia, against whom Luxembourg will play on Thursday, won 2:0 against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Luxembourg - Portugal 0:6

0:1 Cristiano Ronaldo (9'), 0:2 Joao Felix (15'), 0:3 Bernardo Silva (19'), 0:4 Cristiano Ronaldo (31'), 0:5 Otavio (77'). 0:6 Rafael Leao (88')

The Red Lions played in a 4-4-2 formation, which at first looked more offensive than Portugal's 5-3-2. Nevertheless, the guests clearly dominated the opening half of the game.

Although Luxembourg managed to get the first real chance, Portugal were more clinical and took the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo after nine minutes. Their second goal followed six minutes later and after little over 30 minutes of game time, the guests had extended their lead to 4:0.

Portugal reduced the pressure on Luxembourg after the break, which allowed Luc Holtz' team to come back into the game. However, a fifth goal came in the 77th minute and the highlight for Luxembourg turned out to be a penalty that keeper Anthony Moris saved.

Rafael Leao finally finished off the game with a sixth goal in the 88th minute.
