The statement stresses that the Confederation has repeatedly drawn attention to the issue of medicine shortages in Luxembourg since November last year: “The LCGB is now forced to write to the Minister of Health and the Minister of Social Security once again about worrying feedback from insurants who are having difficulty obtaining commonly used medicines, such as cough syrups, but also medicines prescribed for the treatment of chronic conditions, such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis.”

According to feedback from affected pharmacists, the current shortages are not only linked to known disruptions of the supply chains, but also to Luxembourg’s dependence on other countries, particularly Belgium: “In this respect, the LCGB has just been made aware of a sort of embargo that Belgium has decided on the export of medicines that are experiencing recurrent delivery difficulties.”

The Confederation therefore urges elected officials not to stick their heads in the sand or to downplay the severity of the situation. The LCGB further pleads for transparency and concrete measures to tackle to the problem.
