Women are slightly ahead of men in terms of foreign voter registration. According to statistics from the Ministry, senior residents are more interested in the municipal elections than young people. Interest also increases according to residence duration and EU citizens are generally more represented than people from outside of the Union.
A sample of 1,000 potential voters reveals that Dutch citizens are topping the registration list ahead of Danish people. The highest registration rates are in the towns of Bech and Reisdorf.
The Ministry now wants to raise awareness about foreign voter registration, particularly targeting the groups with the lowest rates at present.
Luxembourg’s next municipal elections will take place on 11 June 2023. Foreign residents can still register to vote until 17 April.
