Upcoming discussionsOGBL union "surprised" at tripartite announcement

RTL Today
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced his intention to convene a new tripartite meeting as a result of the latest inflation figures published by STATEC.

OGBL president Nora Back responded that she was surprised by the premier’s invitation for a new round of tripartite meetings over the coming weeks. The Ministry of State confirmed the tripartite meetings with the unions would take place imminently following the latest STATEC forecast, which predicts a third index tranche at the end of 2023.

STATEC estimates the inflation rate will reach 3.4% this year. Back said this would leave households in the same scenario as they were in early September, before the most recent round of tripartite discussions.

Last autumn inflation forecasts were even more dire than they are now, Back said. The president of the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation agreed there was certainly a need to discuss how the next year would unfold.
