Luxembourg's target for 2022 was to save 15 percent of gas compared to the previous year. This target was not only reached, but surpassed: the Grand Duchy has saved 30 percent.

Carlo Bartocci of CREOS has announced that 90 percent of the European gas storage in Europe is full - an unprecedented situation in the European energy market.

With such high reserve levels, there is no longer need to worry about gas supplies this winter. The gas and electricity supplies are both guaranteed and the risk of a shortage is minimal.

In France, the electricity production is stable, with around 40 of the 56 power stations being in operation. Additionally, windmills are currently running at full capacity.

How much energy did Luxembourg save in 2022?

The Grand Duchy saved 30% of gas in 2022. CREOS figures show that in October 2022, the gas consumption was 36% lower than the previous year, 34% lower in November and 15% lower in December.

The Luxembourgish industry alone - which is supplied by CREOS - reduced its consumption by 34% in October, 34% in November and 37% in December 2022 compared to the previous year.

In terms of electricity, the Ministry of Energy turns to the consumption figures of CREOS and SOTEL.

The SOTEL network supplies the steel industry with electricity. When comparing the monthly consumption in 2022 with that of the previous five years, i.e. from 2017 to 2021, we can see that in the last two months of the year there was a large reduction in electricity consumption. In November 2022, consumption decreased by 9.88% compared to the average of the previous five years, only to decrease further by 8.56% in December 2022.
