The CoPilote app is now integrated with the Klaxit carpool community, in a first step towards revamping the service and making it more attractive to commuters.
Following Klaxit's purchase of Ecolutis, which previously headed up the Grand Duchy's carpooling market, in July 2019, CoPilote and Klaxit have combined to update a new app to help Luxembourgish users join the largest home-to-work carpooling community in Europe. The app has even been customised in CoPilote colours for Luxembourgish users to ensure a smooth transition.
The Luxembourg government has opted to subsidise up to €100,000 worth of carpooling between October 2022 and April 2023 in order to make up for two years lost to the pandemic. The period may be extended if the scheme is successful. Passengers can benefit from free journeys, while drivers can receive €1.50 per passenger for journeys under 15 kilometres. For longer journeys ranging from 15 to 40 kilometres, the rate increased by 10 cents per kilometre and per additional passenger in the vehicle.
The scheme can be combined with a €100 bonus promised by the French government to motorists who start carpooling in 2023, applicable for long journeys as well as daily trips.
The Minister of Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, said of the scheme:
"Carpooling is an essential pillar of our Modu 2.0 mobility strategy. Every day, 250,000 empty car seats enter the area around the capital. This creates large traffic flows in one direction only. By reserving a future 3rd lane on our motorways for carpooling, and by strengthening our collaboration with Klaxit, we think we will be able to convince people to participate in shared trips."
Companies can ask to be referenced on Klaxit so that employees can find each other and carpool with confidence. To increase their return on investment, companies also have the option to subscribe to a premium business offer by Klaxit, which provides additional benefit and support.
