Over the last few months, the solidarity grocery shop has noticed more young people making use of its resources, says Jessica Schuler of the Luxembourg Red Cross.

The Caritas store in Esch-sur-Alzette is the largest of its kind in Luxembourg, offering food and hygiene products at up to 70% lower prices than regular supermarkets, in order to make the items accessible to people living in poverty.

Adults receive €25 per week to spend in the store, along with an additional €20 per child, or €5 per infant. Irène Jamsek, social groceries coordinator at Caritas, says the grocery stores are dedicated to ensuring their prices are around a third of those in other shops. However, inflation has forced the solidarity grocery shops to adjust their prices over recent months.
