Due to regular power cutsLuxembourgish student delivers generators to Ukraine

RTL Today
Philippe Jacob returned to Ukraine on Friday to support the war effort. In his luggage, he brought ten generators.

As Ukraine has been suffering regular power cuts due to Russian attacks, such generators are highly valuable and urgently needed especially in war zone hospitals.

The Ukrainian capital regularly goes without power for 20 or 30 hours at a time, with some neighbourhoods experiencing power cuts for about 15 minutes at most.

The private initiative ‘Power to Medics’, chaperoned by Philippe Jacob, hopes to supply small generators of between 3.5 and 8 kilowatts to relieve the medical sector. A second phase hopes to deliver more potent generators in the near future.

The Luxembourger, who studies in Brussels, explains that the situation in Ukraine is much more tense than it was during his last visit in September. Fear has increased, but panic has not broken out yet.

Other than generators, hospitals urgently need lighting and ventilators as the population is preparing for a harsh winter. They fear Russian troops might launch a large-scale offensive in the new year.

Philippe Jacob, however, is due to return to Luxembourg in early January. It will not be the last time he helps out, he explains in an interview with RTL.
