Rob Seelen and Stephan Karlstedt, two experienced names in country’s hospitality industry, aim for the bar to reopen in March 2023. They joined Steps in the studio to discuss their plans, a process that has been ongoing for three years.
“We’ve seen so far that the response on the announcement has been amazing. Everyone seems very happy to bring back Liquid,” Stephan says. Rob adds that he really misses live music in the Grund. “And the beer, of course!”
Rob Seelen is founding partner and owner of Thai restaurant Ukulele. Stephan Karlstedt is owner of Nordics sportsbar Crossfire and partner at Ukulele. The pair want to ensure that the Liquid environment people knew and loved is brought back to life. Business as usual, but with new owners, so to speak.
Asked whether they are not indirectly competing with themselves, Rob says Ukelele is more about the food, and Stephan argues that Crossfire is still more focused on sports. Liquid will truly remain the place to be for live music and beer in the Grund.
Renovations are currently underway, and luckily the bar has not been affected by the 2019 floods. They are aiming for a March 2023 opening, but as the electrical wiring is still being installed and the walls need a fresh coat of paint, a slight delay in reopening cannot be ruled out. Before summer, though, says Rob.
They will be looking for 3-4 full-time staff and are asking musicians to get in touch for gig bookings. Jazz and blues will be the mainstay but rockier and DJ nights are considered if there’s an audience for it.
Though run by Diekirch it will be a ten tap bar (InBev) and they will stock Craft bottles and Cans.
