On Thursday afternoon, the Chamber of Deputies unanimously voted in favour of increasing minimum wage by 3.2% in 2023.
The LSAP's Dan Kersch, rapporteur of the bill, said the decision would bring the minimum wage in line with progression from 2020 and 2021. The increase would see the social minimum wage go up by €74.02 per month, to €2,387.40, while the qualified minimum wage would rise by €88.03 to €2,864.08 per month.
The change will affect some 67,530 employees, 52.5% of whom are Luxembourg residents. The majority of these employees work in the hotel industry or in retail. It is thought this increase will cost the State around 74.6 million euros.
