Several booths at the Luxembourg City winter market near the Monument of Remembrance caught fire on Sunday, with that specific market to remain closed until further notice.

The fires broke out at 1.30am on Sunday and affected several of the sales booths. According to preliminary information, no stall burned down completely and nobody was injured. Police have already opened an investigation into the incident.
According to the latest updates, three stands and several trees are now known to have been consumed by the flames. A fourth booth was also damaged by the fire.

Fire brigades from Luxembourg City and Hesperange were deployed to the scene. On Sunday morning, some firefighters and police officers were still on site, and Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer also came to the scene.

In a Facebook post, restaurant Kugener has since thanked the municipality of Luxembourg City and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) for their fast response and helping their colleagues “avoid the worst”. The team is now working on reopening their restaurant as quickly as possible.
