On Thursday morning, the trial surrounding a fatal police pursuit from 2018 ended with the acquittal of the involved officer and a fine and driving ban for the fugitive driver who triggered the chase.

The motorist in question was intoxicated at the time of trying to avoid the police check and therefore put on trial for drink driving and refusing to cooperate with authorities. On Wednesday, the Diekirch court sentenced him to €1,000 and a driving ban of 18 months. Furthermore, he will have to cover the costs of the trial, which amounts to €5,000.

The police officer who led the pursuit that resulted in the death of a colleague was meanwhile acquitted of all charges. He was on trial for involuntary homicide.
