The national sports and culture centre has put forward a series of measures to meet its 15-percent goal by spring 2023.
The building's facade lighting hasn't been turned on in a while, for example. In general, the decorative lights are no longer used, while those near the building are only used when truly necessary.
In terms of indoor lighting, the complex is working on moving entirely to LED. The gym and swimming pool are already using such lights, the arena is to follow in summer 2023.
Heating the building is also done according to the government's recommendations. Office spaces are heated minimally, while the larger sports halls require little to no heating thanks to the ventilation system.
The swimming pool temperature is also decreased by 1 or two degrees, as is that of the wellness area. The current warm pool of 35 degrees will be turned into a 12-degree pool. In addition, the so-called 'snow cabin', which serves to cool down after a sauna trip, will be hut entirely, explains general director Christian Jung.
The opening hours will be adapted from 15 October onwards, meaning the wellness area will only open from noon to 9 pm on a weekday, 7 pm on Saturday, and 6 pm on Sunday.
The goal is to save 15 per cent of the consumed energy by spring 2023, explains Jung. These measures alone would prevent an abrupt change in visitors' experience or in staff working hours. On top of that, the director does not expect to introduce any fee increases for visitors in the future.
