Luxembourg’s first hydrogen station is expected to come into operation in early 2023. It will be located in the logistics hub of the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) in Bettembourg and will be accessible to all hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The government decided to pursue the construction of the Grand Duchy’s first hydrogen station as part of Luxembourg’s transition to renewable energies and emission-free traffic.
Until now, the share of hydrogen, which is still entirely derived from fossil fuels, has been relatively small in the industry. However, the aim is to obtain 100% of hydrogen from renewable energy sources by 2030. Another application for hydrogen is expected to be in transportation, particularly for heavy vehicles such as buses and lorries.
