The majority of MPs in the Chamber approved the law in a vote on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, MPs in the Chamber of Deputies voted on a draft bill to abolish the five-year residence clause for municipal elections.
This means that people can now participate in local elections even if they just recently moved, as long as they registered 55 days ahead of the vote.
Up until now residents had to live in Luxembourg for at least five years to participate in municipal elections.
Only the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) voted against the proposition.
For people interested in running for local office, the six-month minimum period of living in a municipality will remain in place.
