Following a series of articles published on Reporter.lu, numerous politicians started to question the management of the Intercommunal Syndicate for IT Management (SIGI).
The Reporter.lu articles describe a work environment in which the management repeatedly makes use of fear and intimidation. The main criticism is directed against SIGI Director Carlo Gambucci and President Yves Wengler.
According to Reporter.lu, some of the syndicate's employees have decided to take legal action. As for potential political consequences, the Pirate Party wanted to get answers from Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding in the responsible Parliamentary Committee on Wednesday morning. However, MP Marc Goergen explained to our colleagues from RTL Radio that he "wasn't happy" with the Minister's answers. While the autonomy of the municipalities must be respected, Goergen pointed out that over 100 communes are affected. In the eyes of the MP, this justifies an intervention by national politicians, especially since the Reporter.lu articles also mention instances of bullying, embezzlement, and issues with data protection. However, the Minister continues to insist that the issues at SIGI are "not her responsibility". The Pirate Party disagrees with Bofferding on this point, Goergen said.
But is is not just opposition MPs that are asking questions. MP François Benoy from the Green Party (Déi Gréng) recently submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister, asking how "bad" she thinks the situation is. Benoy also asked for information on potential checks regarding the administrative and financial management of SIGI.
Finally, the MP wants to know what Bofferding intends to do about the situation. The Minister has yet to respond to this parliamentary question.
According to information obtained by our colleagues from RTL Radio, some members of the intercommunal syndicate are also demanding answers from the management. Among others, the municipal authorities of Dudelange and Dippach are said to have written letters to SIGI, calling on the management to comment on the allegations.
