The Chamber of Deputies unanimously voted in favour of lifting the mask mandate on board Luxembourg’s public transport networks on Thursday afternoon.

Rapporteur Mars di Bartolomeo warned this did not mean the virus was no longer present, despite restrictions being lifted. Other speakers also called for continued caution in the wake of increasing infections.

MPs spoke of the importance of preparing for the autumn, ahead of an expected increase in Covid figures as the colder months draw in. The CSV’s Claude Wiseler proposed a fourth vaccination, on a voluntary basis, for people in need of further protection against the virus.

Thursday afternoon’s session also saw MPs voting on law projects for a multimodal interchange at Ettelbruck train station, as well as the financing of the “An der Schmëtt” housing project. A debate on the Ombudsman’s report also took place.

Two petitions pass 4,500 signature threshold

Two online public petitions have amassed more than 4,500 signatures, which means they will be submitted to the Chamber for public debate.

Petition 2301, launched on 3 April as a response to the closure of the Ettelbruck maternity hospital, calls for a new maternity unit and a paediatric emergency unit in northern Luxembourg. The Ettelbruck centre has since reopened.

Petition 2332 demands that parental leave be extended from six to nine months.
