According to RTL sources, there have been several cases of the so-called "Blackout-Challenge" in secondary schools across the Grand Duchy.

The ""Blackout-Challenge", which first surfaced online some 15 years ago, has regained momentum on social media. It consists of a choking challenge in which a person attempts to hold their breath until they faint. It has primarily resurfaced on TikTok, with users daring others to make their own videos for the challenge.

The challenge first came to prominence in 2008. Experts have warned against participating in the challenge as it can have fatal results. Some 80 people in the USA alone have died as a result of the challenge in the last few years. The challenge can also cause severe headaches and other serious injuries, as participants have attempted to strangle themselves in a result to complete it.

TikTok said it was attempting to remove videos linked to the challenge and would revise the search function to block any content referring to the key words "Blackout Challenge".
