RTL took a closer look at how the extension of the Luxembourg City tram network is coming along, providing insight on the different stretches under construction and their respective schedules.
Extension work of the tram railway system began in April last year and the stretch under construction extends over one kilometre. Aside from the tram rails, the Bridges and Roads Authority will also set up a new road, the N3. Two tram stops are expected to be added as well: 'Leschte Steiwer' and 'Lycée Bouneweg'. Furthermore, there will be a bus station designed to act as an interchange location.
Extension work between Lycée Vauban and the Stade de Luxembourg is scheduled to continue in Autumn this year. Although the stretch will only be completed by late 2023, the section between Luxexpo and Bonnevoie will already be accessible in autumn.
About 60,000 passengers use the tram services on a daily basis. In December last year, officials even measured an average of 77,000 people. Aside from additional conductors, the tram system thus also needs more wagons to cover demand.
