Motorists rushed to petrol stations across the country after the announcement of a record midnight increase in the price of diesel.

RTL readers described "endless queues" that overflowed onto the roads. A situation that could be observed at the border stations but also elsewhere: a reader confirmed that the situation was "just as crazy" in Junglinster, in the centre-east of the country, on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning, a resident of Niederanven shared a video confirming that the situation was similar at the Senningerberg service station.

The scene, filmed with a smartphone, shows motorists trying to force their way to the pumps before it is too late. The motorist had simply come to get some drinks and had to park much further away and walk the distance to the station's shop.

The announcement of the surge in the price of diesel (+18.5 cents) was made at 6 pm in the Luxembourg media. An unprecedented increase that brought the price of diesel above that of unleaded petrol 95.

The price of SP98 also rose by 9 cents overnight. Another factor that helps explain the rush to Luxembourg's petrol stations on Friday evening. The police have not yet reported any offences related to this fuel rush.
