On Monday evening, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs put out an official travel warning for Russia.
The statement underlines that there is a considerable risk of becoming stranded in Russia without a possibility of leaving. Several Russian airports are shut and all EU countries have closed their airspace to Russian aircraft. Furthermore, the current sanctions may lead to credit cards not working in Russia, which is why travellers should be in possession of cash money.
The government also recommends that Luxembourgish nationals currently in Russia stay vigilant and on top of the situation, avoid big gatherings, and follow the instructions of authorities. Finally, the statement warns that filming or photographing military equipment and infrastructure is strictly prohibited in Russia.
