Over the weekend, people protesting government measures also called for a demonstration outside of the Robert Schumann hospital in Kirchberg on Monday at noon. The call was made via social media, but in the end, nobody showed up.
Out of precaution, the police deployed 50 officers to the scene. Minister Kox explained that the police force could not risk having no units stationed outside the hospital should anything occur.
“The past weeks and months have already been challenging for the police, because many of these protests have no real spokesperson. We did not want to take a risk today and therefore sent a respective group of officers to the hospital,” Kox said.
The Minister further underlined that it is unacceptable to protest outside of a hospital where people come to seek help. There is a time and a place for everything, he said.
Kox further addressed Saturdays’s protests in the capital: “I don’t think that officers applied more force despite what some videos show. There is also footage of moderate interactions. What has to be clear is that people who participate in organised and announced demonstrations will be subjected to an identity check so that infringements can be recorded.”
Minister Kox thus appealed to people to only participate in organised demonstrations.
