The president of teachers' union SNE spoke to our RTL colleagues about the current challenges in Luxembourgish schools.

The virus circulates among both pupils and teachers, which makes it increasingly difficult to ensure regular classes in some schools or municipalities. Remakel explained: "There has long been a shortage of teachers and substitutes. Now with all the positive Covid cases and people having to stay home, we are often not able to replace them all, which makes it difficult for everyone to teach properly."

SNE thus argue that officials need to start considering more protective measures to prevent schools from closing. Having to wear masks is certainly not ideal, but it will be accepted if it helps break this wave of infections, Remakel emphasised. The union further believes that the regularly carried out rapid tests have to be maintained.
