The temporary sports centre, which will also be accessible to local sports clubs and competitions, is to be finished by November 2022.
For the upcoming winter season, the local authorities will try to find a solution that would allow the pupils of Echternach's primary school to go swimming again during PE class.
The municipal swimming pool was so badly damaged during the floods in July that it could not be reopened. In his reply to a parliamentary question by MP Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr), Minister of Education Claude Meisch stated that swimming lessons at Echternach's secondary school are being replaced by indoor sports activities.
The secondary school's two gymnasiums and the outdoor sports facilities are fully accessible for sports lessons again.
In addition, the construction of a temporary sports centre is planned on the 'Bulettesterrain'. Discussions are still at an early stage, however, according to the Minister, who did not provide any further details. As for the cost of the project, a figure of €8.1 million was put forward at the local council meeting earlier this week, according to the press.
The temporary sports centre, where training sessions of local sports clubs and competitions will also be able to take place, is expected to be completed in November 2022.
The construction of the secondary school's new sports hall is expected to be completed on time, in early-2023.
For the local primary school, an alternative timetable was developed and implemented after the All Saints' holiday, so that the pupils can once again be taught sports indoors, either in the communal ballroom or the local youth hostel.
