The Minister of Health made this statement in her response to an urgent parliamentary enquiry from MP Nancy Kemp-Arendt (CSV).
Since the introduction of the CovidCheck system, there have been reports of people cheating the mechanism with certificates from friends or family members. In that context, MP Kemp-Arendt enquired if the Ministry was on top of this practice, if there were confirmed cases of it, and what the expected fines are.
In her response, Minister Lenert explained that event organisers are responsible for making sure the CovidCheck is respected. So far, the police have not made a single report about a fraudulent certificate.
A number of fines have been set up for incidents of fraud, but each case will still have to be treated individually, Minister Lenert emphasised. Fines are adjusted to the gravity of the violation, and may amount to €12,500 or up to three months of prison-time.
