The château in Sanem, which is due to be renovated, will soon become another site for the Luxembourg Hotel and Tourism School, according to the Minister of Education.

In contrast to Birtrange castle, which was recently sold, Sanem castle will not be put up for sale.

Instead, Claude Meisch confirmed on his Twitter page that the Luxembourg Hotel and Tourism School would repurpose the castle as a base in the south of the country.

The school will offer training courses for chefs, hotel managers, and other qualifications in the tourism sector from DAP to BTS.

The castle, which dates back to the thirteenth century, has been the topic of parliamentary discussions for some time, after Déi Lénk MP Marc Baum submitted an enquiry to the ministers of Finance and Culture, Pierre Gramegna and Sam Tanson, last April.

"The castle is unoccupied and its condition is deteriorating considerably as a result...there is a real danger of irreversible damage," wrote Baum, as part of a plea to preserve the municipality's heritage.

The castle was classified as a historical monument in 1971. The government purchased the building some 14 years later, converting it to a base for the Kannerschlass foundation until 1999.

The building has stood empty for the past five years, suffering damage as a result. The cost of the renovations required for its new purpose have not yet been communicated.
