The slurry first entered the stream in Waldbillig, which feeds into the Black Ernz river, on the night of 9 September. The manure spillage took place at a Waldbillig farmyard, before entering the sewage system.
Water management authorities took samples for further testing. The regional special police unit also recorded the incident.
