According to a collaborative report between Luxembourg's Reporter.lu and the Nepali Times, a number of employees at Nepali-owned restaurants in the Grand Duchy were forced to work in horrific conditions, often without payment.

A number of Nepali restaurant workers have been brought to Luxembourg under false pretences and made to work for free in return for obtaining work visas, according to the extensive report.

In addition, the interviewees said they were forced to live in poor conditions and subjected to violent abuse if they protested. One victim said he had been made to work 18-hour shifts with no time off, no salary and no weekends, and described being hit by a metal skewer when he attempted to stand up to his employer.

The restaurants in question have not been named.

The case has been passed to Luxembourg's judicial police for review.
