The building's groundwork dates back to the early 17th Century.
The idea of a national gallery, which was promoted by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, will not be implemented. On the contrary, instead of remaining a cultural institution, the building next to the Notre-Dame Cathedral will be turned into a place of law.
On the ground levels, a restaurant will be installed and a few rooms reserved for cultural events. Following a demand from the Ministry of Education, a permanent exhibition on the Luxembourgish language will be set up at the location.
Ministers Tanson and Bausch provided this information in their response to a parliamentary enquiry from MP André Bauler (FR).
