A video of Xavier Bettel and Paulette Lenert wearing no masks and hugging made the rounds on social media and forced the ministry of State to react.

No masks and no social distancing: a video showing Xavier Bettel and Paulette Lenert at a concert has been shared and hotly discussed on social media these past few days.

They are seen hugging and chatting at close proximity, seemingly breaching the official sanitary recommendations of distancing and mask-wearing.

According to information relayed to RTL, the Prime Minister and the Minister for Health took part in a private event on 13 June, Mother's Day in Luxembourg.

The Minister for Health confirmed to us that "the concert took place under the CovidCheck regime," the Luxembourg health passport. "Everyone present was checked, which worked well and allowed for events without masks or distancing."

Upon request, the Ministry of State also commented the circumstances of the event: "The current situation and the success of the vaccination campaign allowed for a change in the measures such that cultural events can once again take place with screening and CovidCheck. This is important, good and right for the culture, sports and event sectors, for the Horeca, but also for daily life. Initial events have thus taken place and the Prime Minister supports any initiative that can be organised within a regulated setting and while respecting the measures and rules."
