According to the police, most of these incidents were quickly brought under control and most people celebrated peacefully.

However, one incident in particular was slightly more serious.

At around 2.30 am, a large group of people repeatedly provoked police officers on Rue du Rost behind the Grand Ducal Palace. When the officers tried to check the individuals, a physical altercation broke out, during which a police officer was punched in the face.

The situation escalated a second time shortly after, leaving a number of people and two police officers injured and requiring them to be treated at the hospital. Four people were taken into custody and face charges for rebellion.

Any witnesses of the incident are asked to contact 113 or the police department in Esch-sur-Alzette by calling 244 50 1000.
